Where We Work

Home to more than 18 million people and spanning 64,000 square miles across six states and the District of Columbia, the Chesapeake Bay watershed is massive. While much attention is dedicated to the main stem of the Bay, efforts to protect and restore the nation's largest estuary begin and end with improving the health of the more than 100,000 creeks, rivers, and streams that lead to the Bay.

Recognizing the value of protecting and restoring all these rivers and streams, the Coalition has a presence throughout the Bay region. Spearheading our work for clean water at the local and state level are our Coalition Leads. Each state in the watershed has a lead who is responsible for convening and organizing work around our Coalition priorities, while also looking for new and emerging issues that may need Coalition support. Our leads work hard to ensure that our members are not only knowledgeable about Bay issues, but engaging with the larger membership to help solve them.

Each state has an active listserv and a call. Staffers at Coalition member organizations are invited to join one (or more!) of the state teams. If you have any questions, please contact Wuillam Urvina at urvinaw@nwf.org.
