Clean Water Advocates Mourn the Passing of Congressman Gerry Connolly
(HARRISONBURG, VA)—Today, Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-VA) passed away after a battle with cancer. Clean water advocates gathering for the 2025 Choose Clean Water Conference were saddened by the news. In response, Choose Clean Water Coalition Director Kristin Reilly issued the following statement:
“Congressman Gerry Connolly was a tireless leader for clean water and conservation. As chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and a member of Congress, Connolly was a strong voice in ongoing efforts to restore and protect local waterways throughout the Chesapeake Bay region. In Congress, he encouraged the EPA to reaffirm its commitment to the goals of the Chesapeake Bay Agreement and championing legislation to protect wildlife and habitat. Our thoughts are with Congressman Connolly’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
The Choose Clean Water Coalition is an organization that harnesses the collective power of more than 300 local, state, regional and national groups to advocate for clean rivers and streams in all communities in the Chesapeake region.
