Choose Clean Water Coalition Statement on Chesapeake Executive Council Meeting

(WASHINGTON, DC)—The Chesapeake Executive Council met today to discuss the current state of the effort to restore the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers and streams. At the forefront of the meeting was the approaching 2025 deadline to have all pollution reduction practices in place to meet established cleanup goals. In response, Choose Clean Water Coalition Director Kristin Reilly issued the following statement:

"The leaders of the Chesapeake Bay restoration effort met once again to applaud the progress made on cleaning our local waterways and pledge to building on improvements. We are grateful for the time and attention dedicated towards stewarding the natural treasure of the rivers, creeks, and tributaries that feed the Bay. We also welcome the appreciation for partnerships to meet our clean water goals.

"However, we are focused on the actions that will follow the words shared this afternoon from the members of the Executive Council. If we are to provide clean water to all 18 million people whose local waterways feed the Bay, we need accountability and sufficient investments to ensure we meet our commitments.

"We will closely follow the actions of the Executive Council and harness the collective power of our more than 270 member organizations to raise their voice for clean water."

The Choose Clean Water Coalition is an organization that harnesses the collective power of more than 270 local, state, regional and national groups to advocate for clean rivers and streams in all communities in the Chesapeake region.
