Welcome to CCWC, Genesis Ibrahim-Balogun!

Hi! I am Genesis Ibrahim-Balogun (she/her), and I’m thrilled to intern with the Choose Clean Water Coalition this summer. I’m especially looking forward to learning from the dedicated and passionate staff driving change in environmental advocacy and water justice across the region.

Here I am helping prepare for my campus’s Adopt-a-Pot event!

I’m from Fontana, California, where drought resilience isn’t just encouraged, it’s essential. Growing up, I loved trips to the beach and quickly became committed to preserving our coasts… yes, I was proudly that kid with the metal straw!

I’m a senior at North Carolina A&T State University (Aggie Pride!), majoring in Agriculture and Environmental Systems with a concentration in Environmental Studies. My personal experiences and community impact have shaped my passion for environmental science.

Ironically, I once resisted getting involved in water-related work. But my mom helped me recognize that nearly every internship and research opportunity I’d taken on had water at its core, whether I realized it or not.

I previously served as an Environmental Intern for former Mayor Deborah Robertson in Rialto, California, where I developed city planting guidelines based on drought tolerance and carbon sequestration. I’ve also conducted undergraduate research with Texas A&M–Corpus Christi and the USDA, evaluating irrigation systems for Texas crops using sensor-based data collection. Most recently, I conducted research at NC A&T, focusing on turbidity and physicochemical water quality parameters in an urban stream in Greensboro, North Carolina.

In my free time, I enjoy traveling, reading, volunteering with youth, and spending quality time with my family and friends. I can’t wait to dive into this summer’s work with the Coalition!
