Water Quality Improvement in the Surface Transportation Bill

The Coalition has identified the reauthorization of the surface transportation bill as an opportunity to improve water quality.

Our priorities include:

• A clear policy to ensure that all new construction and major retrofit of federal-aid roadways reduce or eliminate related stormwater discharges and mimic pre-construction hydrology to the maximum extent practicable;
• Investments in public transit and intercity rail; and,
• Transportation policies and funding that support redevelopment in existing communities and compact, mixed-use, walkable development to reduce land conversion in the watershed.
