Member-Led Initiatives

With the recognition that members of the Coalition work on a diverse set of policy issues, the Coalition adopted a set of member-led initiatives at our 2010 Annual meeting that go beyond the Chesapeake Executive Order, TMDL, and Chesapeake Clean Water Act.  Below is a list of member led initiatives that are currently taking shape.

• Passage of comprehensive climate and renewable energy legislation with protections for water quality and species in the Chesapeake Bay region;
• Improved regulations on natural gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale area to protect drinking and source waters, as well as downstream areas;
• Passage of the Clean Water Restoration Act (or subsequent legislation) to ensure that all waters are covered under the Clean Water Act; and
• Development of ambitious land protection and sustainable landuse and transportation strategies throughout the region.
