Climate Change and Chesapeake Bay
The Chesapeake Bay will be greatly impacted by the sea level rise and increased storm activity caused by global warming. The Coalition supports national legislation to address global warming.
Allocation of funds from the sale of emissions allowances should contribute significantly to reduction of global warming pollution, ensure that wildlife and natural resources are conserved for future generations, and ensure that communities most vulnerable to climate change impacts are given a rightful share of assistance. Important provisions include:
- Science-based standards to reduce U.S. global warming emissions;
- Strong standards for rapidly deploying renewable energy and energy efficiency
- Funding for verifiable greenhouse gas emissions reductions for industries not covered by the cap with strong oversight
- EPA's continued authority to issue performance standards for power plants; and,
- Funding for adaptation for affected communities and natural resources to ensure that measures are adopted that will protect resources.
